Workshop on "Beijing Review and Role of Media"

Sancharika Samuha (SAS) Nepal has been organizing a series of sharing and sensitization workshops this year on B+5 and its outcome and what significance it has in Nepal, in different sectors after the national workshop held on 31 July and 1 August 2000. Another two-day workshop was organized by SAS on 7 & 8 August on "Beijing Review and Role of Media" in Pokhara, Western Development Region of the country with the support from Frederick Eburt Stiftung (FES).
The main objectives of the workshop were to make the media aware of the Beijing + five special session, the government's obligation and accountability to implement the BPFA and the outcome of the B+ 5 with special focus on the role of the media. The workshop also discussed on the achievements after the fourth World Women Conference held at Beijing, China in 1995, the review process of the B+5 session, the outcome of it, identified strategies that the media should adopt in recruiting and monitoring its implementation at the national level.
Resource persons - Bandana Rana, President of SAS and Dr Hiramani Ghimire an expert in information technology conducted the workshop. More than 30 media professionals of the Western Development Region had participated the workshop.
