Issues of Uterine Problem in Nepal
On 8th December, 2006 Sancharika Samuha organized Orientation Program on "Issues of Uterine Problem in Nepal: Role of Media.
Uterine Prolapse is one of the most widespread reproductive health and social problem, yet most unspoken and hidden issue in Nepal. Women are shy, afraid and humiliated to speak openly about their health issues and Uterine Prolaspe is one of the deadly health problems, Nepalese women are shy to speak about, it's been a hidden subject and women feel embarrassed to speak out. Hence it is the most hidden and neglected health issue. Therefore we say "The Fallen Womb: A Hidden Tragedy"
In Nepal, it is estimated that almost 600000 women are suffering from Uterine Prolaspe. It is caused by extensive physical labor, especially during pregnancy, low availability of skilled birth attendants or birth attendant by "Dhaima, Sudeni" and rapid succession of pregnancies. This Orientation program had huge media coverage. Reporters, Media Personality, both electronic media and press media covered this issue hugely.Dr.Aruna Upretty who was one of the participants of this program was interviewed in different FM station and the program based on this issues were also aired. Articles and news on this program was published in daily newspapers. Apart from this various television stations and radio media had also produced news regarding the orientation program. This would help to generate awareness among people regarding this hidden issue.
