Role of Diplomatic Agencies for Safe Foreign Employment

Sancharika Samuha in collaboration with UNIFEM organized an interaction progrmame on the 'Role of Diplomatic Agencies for Safe Foreign Employment' on 17 August, 2007 at the UNIFEM office. The Chief Guest of the occasion was Honorable Sahana Pradhan, Minister of Foreign Affair. The other participants included Secretary of Finance Ministry, Honorable Deependra Bahadur Chettri, Member of Planning Commission, Secretary, Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare, President of Foreign Employment Agency Association, former Ambassador Mohan Man Sainju, Dr, Meena Acharya and representatives of employment agencies and media. A total of 39 participants attended the meeting. Saru Joshi of UNIFEM facilitated the programme.

On behalf of Sancharika Samuha and UNIFEM, President of Sancharika Samuha, Babita Basnet welcomed the participants to the interaction programme. She informed the participants that Sancharika Samuha had been organizing series of interaction programmes with various different groups since the past five years. President of Paurakhi, Manju Gurung made a presentation on the above topic. Mr. Ganesh Gurung gave some important data of the situation of migrant women. Dr. Meena Acharya stressed on the need to provide training to foreign migrant women workers. Various other speakers stressed on the need to have at least a labour attache in the migrating countries.
